Leonardo Dicaprio at KCA: “Our mother is hurting!”

The Green activists love to talk about their green endeavours; however, occasionally they take it a little far.  First, we had the speech Al Gore made where he basically told young teenage children that their parents were out of touch and didn’t understand the modern world.  Now, it’s Leonardo DiCaprio telling the millions of young children at the Kids Choice Awards that “our mother is hurting”.

I haven’t seen much reaction to this on blogosphere yet, most likely because most bloggers likely weren’t watching the awards show.  However, I happened to catch a few minutes of the telecast, and what I saw was ALL ABOUT some green activism.  Leonardo was there to accept his award for “The Big Green Help” (which never fails to remind me of Sara Silverman’s “The Great Schlep”), which is given to the person that exhibits excellence in advancing green initiatives.  During his speech, he said this:

Right now, our mother, Mother Earth, is hurting.  And she needs a generation of thoughtful, caring, and active kids like all of you to protect her future.  You can help us win the battle to clean up our air, our water, our land, to protect our forests, our oceans and our wildlife.

There was much more to the acceptance speech, which drug on for at least an hour and was the longest acceptance speech I’ve ever heard.  After hearing that, several things came to mind.  First of all, I can’t imagine why this is on a show geared to young tweens.  At this point in their lives, the environment is not a priority.  Secondly, I don’t understand why the people at Nick feel the need to shove something as controversial as Global Warming down our throats at an awards show for kids.  At a time when most are beginning to doubt the mere existence of Global Warming, Nick is in full force pushing a green way of life.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against a green lifestyle; I do, however, have something against a children’s channel taking advantage of children by pitching farce like Global Warming.  And I don’t necessarily have a problem with children being educated in taking care of the environment, but using lines like “our mother is hurting”?

What do you think of this?  How does this compare to Al Gore’s speech earlier in the year?  Leave your comments below or send us an e-mail at theconservativejournal@gmail.com!

Thanks for reading!
