It’s A Big Day For TV: Goodbye Simon Cowell, Hellooo Sarah Palin!

Goodbye Simon.

Today has been a wild day in the world of TV.  First, as I was sitting in a meeting at work I got a message from CNN’s Twitter confirming the recent rumor that Simon is leaving “American Idol” to start his similar show, “The X Factor” in the United States.  As a long time American Idol fan (Season 4 and counting) this news made the rest of the meeting hard to sit through.  American Idol will exist without Simon (Execs are negotioating a 5 year extension for “Idol”‘s contract, so that’s safe), but after this season only one original judge will be left (And it’s Randy, undoubtedly the WORST judge on the panel) and the nostalgic part of me will miss all the antics of the original three.  Having said that, I’m excited about the new leaf the show is turning over with Ellen and can’t wait to see what the next few seasons will bring.  Additionally, Simon will be starting his show, “The X Factor”, in the fall of 2011.  I’m going to make a prediction now that Paula will judge (at least as a guest), as Simon has already started alluding to that.  For more in-depth and up to the minute coverage, check out THIS post at Mj’s (My blog of choice when it comes to American Idol related trivia).

Hellooo Sarah!

After the meeting finally adjourned, I at my lunch and sat in my office in dismay.  Then, the day made a complete about-face when my friend sent me a text informing that Sarah Palin had signed with Fox News.  I admit that when I first read the message I didn’t believe it; the friend who sent the message is NOT a Palin fan, so I was expecting him to reply “Yeah, but then she quit before they could get the camera ready” or something else along those lines.  I looked it up for myself and smiled happily at my desk when I read the news, straight from the Fox website.  I’m glad she’s not operating a full time show as many expected because I still want her to keep her options to a future on the national political scene, so this gig is perfect!  Hopefully she can use this platform to- slowly- mend her tattered image and become the conservative “golden girl” she was before the media destroyed her.
