Super Bowl 2010: GO SAINTS AND CARRIE UNDERWOOD! (Plus, SB Contest Winner)

GOOOOO SAINTSS!!!!!!! They said it could never be done, but the Saints won the biggest prize in the NFL!  Last night was QUITE a night at the house at which I was watching the game.  We were all rooting for the Saints and they definitely impressed.  Even more impressive, perhaps, was Carrie Underwood’s pre-Super Bowl National Anthem performance.  In a change from her previous “Star Spangled Banner” performances, she went for full voice on the “freeeeee” line at the end and knocked it out of the park (or stadium).  The sound of the crowd started to get to her at the end (that’s my guess), understandably, and caused the final “brave” note to go slightly off at the beginning, but Carrie’s inability to be anything less than great kicked in and she auto-tuned the note herself.  Not only was her performance outstanding, but it’s also worth noting that she sang live, something that few have done at Super Bowl for obvious sound and technical reasons.

Here’s the rest of the staff’s reactions to the big game and Carrie!

Suzannah: Well, I’ll be the first to say that I don’t care the least bit about football, but I always watch the Super Bowl and I saw no reason to do any differently this year.  It was a great game to watch and even with my extreme disdain for the sport, I managed to enjoy the great win by the seasons biggest underdog.  As for musical performances, The Who was bad.  Queen Latifah was okay, though she was obviously having issues with sound and her ear piece.  Carrie, on the other hand, was phenomenal.  I don’t understand where all of that power comes from.  She’s got guts and crazy vocal skills, and I didn’t even notice the last note.  Even after watching it back 5 times I can’t hear any error.  Outstanding.

Michael: I’m still not over the game.  The Colts are my team and they failed.  As for music, I disagree with Suzannah.  I thought The Who was awesome.  Queen Latifah is better as an actress/comedian, but she was horrible.  I do agree that Carrie was great.  Much better than Scream did last year.

Angelica: WOOOOOOOO!!!!  GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!!  That about sums that up.  I loved everything about last night’s game.  The Saints finally reached the top of the football totem pole.  I missed The Who’s performance, but I enjoyed Queen Latifah and Carrie.  I thought the last note was pretty rough, but it’s not like she missed any high notes.  It’s kind of ironic that she nailed the high note at “free”, but missed the relatively easy note at “brave”.  Nevertheless, she did a great a job and I’m not a “love her no matter what” fan.  I have, however, been more than impressed with everything she’s done since I started paying attention to her after her Grammy performance.
