Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill: The Oily Water Is Rising

If I had a dollar for every time I failed to post something here on time, I’d have enough money to quit my job and become a professional blogger.  Unfortunately, I’m yet again a few days late on posting updates from Alabama, and I apologize deeply for that.  Unfortunately, yet again, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to upload pictures from the trip.  I’m unfamiliar with my camera and the pictures just won’t transfer to my laptop.  I wanted to get those ready before posting an update, but I’ve struggled with it for two days and I’m making no progress.  So, without pictures for now, here’s my update on my trip to Southern Alabama.

I got home early Monday morning from the adventure packed trip to Alabama to visit some old friends and gather eyewitness reports about what’s going on in the areas affected by the oil spill.  First, let me just say again that I was surprised how bad it is.  The media is portraying a lite-version, in my opinion, of what’s going on and it’s truly surprising to see it all first-hand.

Secondly, the smell of oil is everywhere.  Though I got used to it after a while, when I first stepped out of the car I was kind of taken back by how clearly I smelled oil.  Where my friends live, oil visible in the water from the top floor of their house, and tar balls and gunk are all over the beach.  Though I didn’t see any oil-covered animals on the beach, I talked to several people who did and I saw two birds who had been taken in for cleaning.  It’s truly devastating to see what this disaster has done to birds and other wildlife.

I’ll soon begin posting the eyewitness reports I compiled from those who live in the affected region, so be on the look out for that.  I had fun playing journalist for a weekend, so hopefully you guys will enjoy them!

I heard some very disturbing news on an alternate radio station today. I heard that the seriousness of this spill has not been reported on. This guy who had inside conections to an ex oil ceo said that BP was drilling so deep that there is more than just oil pouring out of there. Some volital organic stuff. Hydrogen Sulfide which exceptable levels are 5-10 parts per Billion and testing has shown it tested 1200 ppb. Benzine, safe levels are 0-4 ppb and air tested 3000 ppb, Methelyn chloride which also tested 3000 ppb, I didn’t get the exceptable amount on that. I was trying to write it all down. But, this guy had fear and alarm in his voice. He was talking about the serious illnesses and stillborns that will result from this. I just wanted to let you know that if it were me living down there, I might think of moving away for awhile. I hope your friends will be alright. I’m thinking about all of the people and wildlife in the gulf.

When I watch the news, it saddens me to see the animals that are affected. I even saw someone vacumning the oil from the beach. It must smell really bad. Bravo for going and getting first hand news. I am so angry about all this and how the company didn’t have a back up plan for this kind of this kind of thing. You would think that a company with that kind of money would have had all sorts of back up plans for all sort of possible tradegies.

What I find disturbing is Obama’s disregard for the rule of law

  4. This whole situation is so sad, and it gets worse every day. It astounds me that they can’t do something to cap off that well.

  5. You’ve really cpatrued all the essentials in this subject area, haven’t you?
