Last Day In Orange Beach: Jimmy Buffett Concert and Sand Sculptures

Well, after a lengthy and very enjoyable vacation, the family is packing up and leaving tomorrow afternoon.  It’s back to the real world for all of us!

Just a quick note about the oil and then on to some more vacationy things:  For the last 5 days we were at the beach, Cleanup crews combed the beaches to clean up tar balls and other oil related residue.  This was a vast improvement from what we saw at the beginning of our stay, which was more than likely due to the ongoing effects of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Alex.  Assuming the cap does the trick on the Deepwater Horizon well, the Gulf Coast could very well be onto it’s road to recovery.

As for the concert and the latter part of the trip, my wife has all of the pictures and I will have to get her to help me upload them.  But for those asking, the concert was a blast!  We had so much fun even with all of the madness.  My wife was surprised and thrilled, which made it all that much better for someone like me, who isn’t really a huge Buffett fan.  Based on the length of time we sat in traffic after (we stayed for the whole thing; even after the CMT feed was cut), I’d say there were approximately 3 million people in attendance (Joking of course; 35,000-40,000 are the official numbers).  If any of you got to attend the concert and want to share you experiences, please feel free to e-mail (theconservativejournal@gmail.com) or comment below.

While we are getting ready to depart for home tomorrow, I’ll leave you this one picture I took from my cell phone that I thought was exceptionally cool:

Some people are very talented at the strangest things.

That tiger is made entirely from sand!  It’s spray painted, obviously, but it takes a lot of school to craft a tiger sand and then paint it to look good.   There was a group that set up on the beach near where we have a house and they constructed several elaborate sand sculptures; this one being the obvious choice, in my mind, for coolest.
