Alright, here goes nothing.

Last week I wrote an article chastising Big Government’s Andrew Brietbart for running edited clips of Shirley Sherrod without looking into the context of her statements.  I stand by those criticisms in that it’s irresponsible reporting on his part.  I also criticized the White House and the NAACP for hanging Sherrod out to dry as soon as the video spread throughout the internet.  While I stand by those criticisms, I’m feeling less and less sorry for Sherrod every time she opens her mouth.

First and least importantly, Sherrod ignored interview requests with Fox News shows, including Glenn Beck who was the first to come to her defense, while accepting requests with shows on every other cable news network.  In my eyes, interviews with Fox News should be her first choice considering those viewers are the ones who were initially misinformed by O’Reilly and Hannity.  Not to mention that the interviews would have been softballs considering O’Reilly and Hannity both had to run retractions.

I Hate Hypocrites

Secondly, Sherrod obviously didn’t learn the consequences of making rash decisions.  In a CNN interview she said that she thought it would be a very good think if Andrew Brietbart’s Big Government was shutdown immediately for the whole ordeal.  While Brietbart is in the wrong more than any others involved, a decision to shut down his website would be made based on just as little evidence as there was when the decisions was made to fire Shirley.  We still don’t know if Brietbart knew the tapes were edited and were posted in ignorance, or if, worst case scenario, he edited the tapes to show the racially driven statements on their own.  Given the fact that Brietbart is a fairly prominent blogger who endures much scrutiny when he breaks any “scandal”, I doubt he or his staff edited the tapes to incriminate Sherrod.

Sorry, We No Longer Accept MasterCard or RaceCard

And finally, Ole Shirley has resorted to throwing down the race card like it’s all she’s got left in a game of UNO.  She’s asked that Andrew Brietbart please show the world that he is not a racist.  How in the world is he going to do that?  She’s said that Republicans oppose healthcare reform because Obama is black.  Where in the world does that come from?  Her accusations and her rapid-fire race card deployment are even more baseless than Brietbart’s initial claims that Shirley was a racist.  At least that had a video to go along with it.

Bottom Line

Shirley has quickly transformed from victim to village idiot right before our eyes.  She’s borderline senile and her claims that Brietbart and Republicans are a part of big ole conspiracy to silence African Americans are so baseless that I’m sitting her at my laptop with my jaw dropped, struggling to come up with anything witty to say about them.  Shirley, I’m going to lob the question back over the net and ask you to please prove to America that you aren’t racist.  And no, being friends with a white farmer in the midwest WILL NOT cut it.

As I have watched events unfold with this situation, I have become much less sympathetic to her plight.

Why are you feeling less and less sorry for Shirley Sherrod is not made clear in your article. Of course Breitbart knew the tapes were edited, it was his site and it is obvious that less than 2-minutes of a speech could not have covered Sherrod’s entire speech. Breitbart posted the part that served his purpose, nothing more and nothing less. It makes no sense to expect Sherrod to go on Fox to refute anything, did Fox go to her BEFORE it aired the accusations against her? Her opinion, her intent or purpose of the speech was not important before the tide turned. Interesting that using a sliced and diced speech to show a Black woman is racist was all that was needed to nevatively impact her life and reputation. When she states how race played a part in it all, she is suddenly racist, senile, and needs to get over it. This entire issue was about RACE! It seems that the only issue is the colored woman is not allowed to say so-at least for too long.

For the record, Sherrod was told to pull over and resign BY THE WHITE HOUSE/USDA before one word of her situation had been aired on Fox. Why would they have done this? Perhaps because they knew racism when they saw it, too.

Sherrod has a history here that should be factored in. Yelling ‘racist’ has made her quite the wealthy woman:

“For background, the Pigford Farms case is a class-action lawsuit filed against the federal government on behalf of black farmers and black wannabe farmers, who say they were discriminated against in loan proceedings. The federal government settled Pigford Farms for an unbelievable $1.15 billion. An incredibly high percentage of those receiving awards under this settlement have done so fraudulently.”

“Shirley Sherrod was not only an initiator of the Pigford Farms case, she received a chunk of change for her company, New Communities, Inc. To be accurate, she received the largest chunk of change for New Communities — $13 million. New Communities was a bankrupt commune-type land trust held by Sherrod and her husband. She and her husband personally received $150,000 each to compensate them for “pain and suffering.”

This is exactly what makes me shut down and stop paying attention to a story. It’s like the news media doesn’t research double-check anything before publishing, so you get this crazy back and forth of “she’s terrible, well not as terrible as we thought yesterday, oh, but more terrible than we thought after that… and oh… (ad infinitum).

    It makes me tired.

To my mind, SS has her own agenda and she likes the press she is getting. I’m sure she has no compunctions about revisiting her firing as a source for public indignation. I am reminded that she was speaking to the NAACP and her remarks were tailored to that group…could be all she really is is an opportunist waiting for an opportunity.

I’m less sympathetic to her as well, and she is definitely using the limelight to her advantage.
