In the second episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, titled “Just for the Halibut” (Perhaps more appropriately titled “Palin Family Vacation”), Sarah and the gang get away from it all by traveling to Homer, Alaska, where they join a commercial fisherman and his wife for some halibut fishing. Following that excursion, they scoot on down to Deep Creak beach for some clam digging. To celebrate their spoils, the Palin’s sit down for a nice seafood feast and enjoy all the food they caught while on the trip.
One thing is for certain about the Palin family; they’re all extremely competitive. Make it a competition and you’ll have each of the Palin’s in ready position in no time. During this episode, Todd and Sarah race on kayaks, and Todd, Sarah, and Bristol engage in a little cooking competition at the end of the episode. I know they know the cameras are rolling, but you can truly tell this is a tight-knit family, no matter how dysfunctional they all may be.
From a wildlife standpoint, this episode brought even more critters than the first. On their kayaking trip, Sarah and Todd spot all kinds of animals, including otters and an eagle. While fishing for halibut, Sarah and Bristol spot a whale jumping in the distance.
Overall, this episode was on par with the first, though we saw much more of Bristol this time. It’s great to see the illustrious Palin family in their natural environment, and the “exploring Alaska” side of the show is really interesting. Don’t forget to tune in next Sunday at 9 EST/8 CST on TLC for the third episode in the 8-part series.

The 2nd season has been canceled. Apparently the banal conversation and sensless killing of aninals were even too much for conservatives. Speaking of sensless killing – As Comedian Frank Conniff recently tweeted: “Hey, Sarah Palin, hows that hatey, killy, reloady, crosshairsy thing working out for ya?”
