Say what you want about his on-screen antics, but you must admit that Glenn Beck has a knack for reinvigorating history for the modern reader. After his take on “Common Sense” last year, I was excited to read his modernized version of the The Federalists’ Papers; something that we sure didn’t learn in school and I’d be willing to bet you didn’t either. For those like me who missed the lesson on pre-Constitution America, this is the book for you.
What’s striking about this book is that writes in such a way that he’s not overtly political; everyone knows Beck is far right, but he leaves that behind when writing “The Original Argument”, a tall order for Beck considering the Federalists were pro-government in nearly every sense of the word. Rather than refuting the original argument made by the Federalists, Beck sticks to the facts and breathes life in an over 200 year old concept.
I’ve always said that Beck was better off t.v. than on, and this book just serves as one more example of that. The ranting and raving Beck that has enjoyed a slot on Fox News for the past few years couldn’t be any more absent in this book, despite the relatively easy time he would have had tying the Federalists to modern-day liberals.
