The latest round of poll numbers released today give President Obama little to be cheery about, with polls from both Gallup and Mason-Dixon showing dismal numbers for the president in Iowa and in the general election next November.
In Iowa, a state that Barack Obama carried by over 15 points in 2008, the president trails Mitt Romney by 3 points and leads Michele Bachmann by a paltry 1 point. It’s also worth noting that President Bush lost Iowa in 2000, and won by less than 1 point in 2004. If Mitt Romney were to win Iowa by a 3-point margin, it would be the largest margin of victory for a Republican in the state since Reagan’s 1984 landslide victory.
Nationally, President Obama saw his worst polling numbers thus far in a Gallup poll that pitted the president against a generic Republican. The Gallup results show that when given the choice of a generic Republican or Barack, registered voters favor the Republican by a whopping 8 points. This surely has to have the President and his team scrambling for some way to turn things around or he’ll join the millions of unemployed next November.
