Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant Speaks Out Against Haley Barbour’s Pardons

In the wake of the controversy surrounding former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour’s pardon of over 200 inmates, newly-minted Governor Phil Bryant released a statement advocating for a constitutional amendment that limits the Governor’s power to pardon.

According to Governor Bryant‘s spokesman, Mick Bullock, Bryant asked Chairman of the Senate Constitution Committee Michael Watson to review the language in the state constitution as it pertains to pardons.  From there, the Governor Bryant hopes to develop a constitutional amendment that will address this “important issue” by limiting the Governor’s power to issue pardons.
